Best website maintenance & support companies in the UK
desk research from public sources- Atomic Smash is the clearest on support terms: published monthly packages from £950 + VAT and tickets answered within an hour in office hours. Illustrate Digital comes first for regulated organisations that want support from the team that built the site.

- Good Design Works publishes the lowest monthly price, from £59 + VAT for pay monthly websites, and Scorchsoft publishes a fixed-fee code audit.
- Atomic Smash is the only one of the seven to publish a support response time, so ask the others for written service levels before you sign.

Prices checked October 2026. Estimates say so in the price itself. How we choose agencies: our method.
How we picked these
Eligible agencies are UK-based and list website maintenance or support as a service, alongside the build or platform work that gives them access to the code. Seven qualified for this page. They are not the same kind of company. Atomic Smash sells improvement and support retainers as its main offer. Illustrate Digital, Studio 24, Wholegrain Digital and Good Design Works build sites and support them afterwards. Shout Digital supports Umbraco platforms, and Scorchsoft builds apps and portals and lists maintenance as a service. The entries say which is which.
The order follows fit first: how central maintenance and support are to what the agency sells, and how closely its terms suit a typical buyer of ongoing support. After that we looked at what each can show, meaning published prices and service terms, a named team, case studies with measured results and stated response times. The quality of the original build counted as a signal for the quality of support. This is desk research from public sources only, and we have not hired any of them or tested their support desks. More on how we choose agencies.
1. Illustrate Digital

Illustrate Digital is a Cardiff-based WordPress and UX agency of about 17 people, with Bristol and London offices. It works mainly for banks, insurers, law firms and Welsh public bodies, and offers website maintenance and audits alongside builds. It suits regulated organisations that want support from a team holding ISO 27001 and ISO 9001 certification.
What they do best
- Support from a named team. The team page lists developers, UX designers, client partners and support technicians.
- Retainers with a named contact. Growth retainers start from £3,000 a month and include a dedicated client partner and a quarterly review.
- Measured results. Foot Anstey rose 146 places to first in the Legal Digital 200 site-speed ranking after its rebuild, and Pepper Money cut deployment time by 83%.
Where they fall short
- No response times. No support response times are published.
- A high build floor. Its build minimum of £40,000 is the highest published floor in this group, so it is not a fit for a small site that only needs updates.
2. Atomic Smash

Atomic Smash is a Bristol agency of about 11 people and a Certified B Corp since 2023. It works on WordPress, WooCommerce and Shopify, and takes over existing sites to maintain and improve them on published monthly retainers. It suits a marketing team with a stable site that wants support, planned improvements and reporting on a fixed budget.
What they do best
- Published packages. Three monthly packages are listed with inclusions: Support & Maintenance from £950 + VAT, Always Evolving from £3,800 + VAT and Always Evolving + Insights from £6,650 + VAT, plus a published day rate.
- A stated response time. Each client gets a pod led by a client partner, and support tickets get a response within an hour in office hours.
- Relevant services. Speed optimisation and accessibility are among its listed services.
Where they fall short
- No new builds. Its WordPress page states that it does not build new websites, so a from-scratch build means hiring another agency first.
- A dated portfolio. Its newest case study is from December 2024, and award claims could not be confirmed on an organiser’s site.
3. Studio 24

Studio 24 is a Cambridge digital agency, in business since 1999, with a London office at King’s Cross. It builds accessible websites and web apps in WordPress, Craft CMS, Laravel and Symfony for public sector, charity and arts clients, and lists maintenance among its services. It suits public sector and charity bodies that can buy through the G-Cloud 15 and DOS 7 frameworks.
What they do best
- Accessibility and public-sector credibility. The GAAD Foundation lists its W3C website redesign as a 2023 Gaady winner, and the work page shows 17 case studies for W3C, Crossrail, HS2, UKHSA, RNIB and the Welsh Parliament.
- An uptime commitment. The UKHSA study reports a five-week build delivered on time with a 99.99% uptime SLA.
- A named team. About 15 staff are named on the team page, and the legal page gives the company number and Cambridge registered office.
Where they fall short
- No prices. A buyer outside the public frameworks cannot size a budget before contact.
- Thin support terms and results. No meeting cadence or support hours were found, and most case studies describe outcomes without before and after figures.
4. Shout Digital

Shout Digital is a Newcastle agency that builds Umbraco platforms and mobile apps for large organisations including the ICO, Novuna, Northumbrian Water and Newcastle Airport. It describes itself as the UK’s first Umbraco Contributing Platinum Partner. It suits enterprise and public-sector teams running Umbraco that want an embedded delivery team and managed support.
What they do best
- 24/7 managed support. It is the only agency here to offer it.
- An embedded delivery team. Case studies describe a team working day to day with client marketing and IT staff, and the ICO and Northumbrian Water testimonials describe being one team.
- Reported outcomes. Novuna reports Azure savings above £100,000 a year, and the ICO case study reports 60% faster response times.
Where they fall short
- No prices, team page or headcount. Its focus on platforms and apps leaves little room for brochure-site or marketing work.
- No published response times. No meeting cadence is published either, and no company number appeared on the pages we read.
5. Wholegrain Digital

Wholegrain Digital is a London WordPress-only agency of about 16 people, founded in 2007 and a Certified B Corp. It builds low-carbon, accessible sites for charities, research bodies and purpose-led businesses. It suits organisations that want carbon and accessibility targets kept up after launch.
What they do best
- WordPress depth. The portfolio holds 77 case studies, almost all WordPress, with recent builds for CAMHRA and Environment Bank in 2025 and clients such as Oxfam, UNICEF and Network Rail.
- Written service terms. They set out quotes, design sign-off, payment stages and opening hours (8.57am to 5.01pm), with out-of-hours charges.
- A named team. The team page names 16 people with roles.
Where they fall short
- Thin aftercare terms. It publishes no support response times or service levels beyond office hours, so aftercare terms are unclear before a call.
- No prices or process steps. The contact form offers only budget bands; our About £25,000-£60,000 per site range is an estimate. Its Operation Smile result, a 161% rise in donation conversions, dates from a 2022 launch.
6. Good Design Works

Good Design Works is a three-director design studio based in Shaftesbury, with a second office in Wimborne. It builds bespoke WordPress and Shopify sites, identities and print, and offers a lower-cost pay monthly option. It suits Dorset small businesses that want the directors working on their project and a monthly fee.
What they do best
- Low monthly pricing. Pay monthly websites start from £59 + VAT per month, the lowest published price here.
- Direct access. The three directors work on every project with no juniors or outsourcing, and one is named as the single point of contact.
- Company details shown. The company number and registered office are printed, and the project process is described.
Where they fall short
- No bespoke prices or results. Prices for bespoke websites are not published, and the work pages show no measured results.
- Small-team risks. With three directors, cover for holidays and illness is a question to ask, and no support response times are stated.
7. Scorchsoft

Scorchsoft is a Birmingham app, portal and AI software developer, in business since 2010, working from an office in the Jewellery Quarter. It lists maintenance among its services and publishes a fixed-fee code audit and a weekly sprint method. It suits startups and organisations with a custom app or portal that needs ongoing care, and it does not suit a brochure site.
What they do best
- Process visibility. Daily updates, a Friday decision to continue, change or stop, and Slack or Teams check-ins are stated.
- A published audit price. A standard code audit is listed at £3,000 + VAT, with smaller apps from around £1,500.
- Usage figures. The homepage reports OxTrack assessed 23,319 teachers and completed 46,251 assessments across four countries in 2025.
Where they fall short
- No build prices and one named person. Prices for app and portal builds are not published, and no team member besides the founder is named.
- App focus. It lists iOS and Android as platforms, so it is a stronger match for app support than WordPress support, and no support response times were found.

What website maintenance actually costs
Only two agencies on this page publish a monthly price, and the figures cover different things. Atomic Smash’s “From £950 per month + VAT” buys one day of support time, and its higher tiers add production days and client partner time. Good Design Works’ “From £59 + VAT per month” is a pay monthly website plan. Scorchsoft’s published figure is an audit and not a support fee.
Before you compare quotes, check whether each of these is included or extra:
- Updates and backups. Core, plugin and theme updates, with a stated backup schedule.
- Security and uptime. Monitoring, malware cleanup and any uptime commitment.
- Support hours. Office-hours support and 24/7 cover are different products.
- Content edits and improvements. Some retainers include planned development days and some bill them by the hour.
- Hosting and licences. Hosting, premium plugins and CMS licences are often separate.
- Notice terms. Ask how long the contract runs and how you leave.
As a rough guide (our estimate), basic maintenance for a small site costs from tens of pounds a month, while retainers with planned development days run into thousands. Where an agency on this page publishes nothing, its entry above says so, and any figure we give is our estimate and not a quote.
FAQ
At minimum, software and plugin updates, backups, security monitoring and fixes. Atomic Smash packages also include planned improvement days and a client partner, and the scope varies by agency. Ask whether content edits, speed work and accessibility fixes are inside the monthly fee or billed separately.
Published figures here are Atomic Smash from £950 per month + VAT and Good Design Works from £59 + VAT per month for pay monthly websites. The other five publish no support price. Any wider market range in this article is our estimate.
No. Atomic Smash takes over existing sites as its main offer. A handover needs access to the code, hosting and plugin licences, so check you hold those before you change supplier.
It should. Atomic Smash states a response within an hour in office hours, and Shout Digital offers 24/7 managed support without published times. Wholegrain Digital publishes opening hours and out-of-hours charges. For the rest, ask for response and resolution targets in writing.
